Grand National 2014 betting

Bet on The Grand National

Today is the third and final day of The Grand National Festival, featuring the 167th running of The Grand National (on Saturday 5 April 2014).

The Grand National is the single most popular horse racing event in the UK’s sporting calendar, pulling in a vast TV audience. Rather than visiting a betting shop this year, more viewers than ever before are expected to place a bet on The Grand National online.

Our pick of the bookies

So which bookie should you choose to place your Grand National bets?

To help you decide, we’ve reviewed Grand National betting offers from some of the UK’s most popular bookies. We looked at features including:

  • How many places do they pay for each way bets?  (§ explanation below).
  • Free bet offers.
  • Live streaming coverage – for watching The Grand National live online.
  • Competitiveness of Grand National odds.

The result of our homework on your behalf is the following list of suggested bookies for your Grand National betting:

Best Grand National betting
1. BetVictor - bet now
* Pays to SIX places on each way bets *
* Free £25 bet for new customers *
* Non-runners refunded as free bets *
* Live streaming of the race (bet required) *
- Plenty of Grand National special bets.
2. Sky Bet
- Pays to 5 places on each way bets.
- £30 matched free bet for new customers.
- Best odds (bet at current price, but get the starting price if it's higher).
3. Ladbrokes
- Pays to 5 places on each way bets.
- Live streaming of The Grand National (bet required).
3. JenningsBet
- Pays to 6 places on each way bets (but BetVictor odds may be better).
5. Coral
- Fun help with choosing your horse: The Grand National Horse Generator.
- Pays to 4 places on EW bets.
- Live streaming of the race (bet required).

As you can see from the table, our clear winner by a length for betting on the Grand National 2014 is BetVictor. At the time of writing, BetVictor offers a winning combination of:

  • Great odds.
  • A free bet offer for new customers (many bookies suspend their free bet offers around the Grand National).
  • Paying each way bets to 6 places (some only pay to 4).
  • Watch the Grand National live online (streaming available when you place a bet).

If you’re placing an each way bet, the additional one or two paid places at BetVictor could easily mean the difference between winning or losing your bet. Odds are, of course, subject to constant change – and the same also applies to free bet offers today.

For a greater choice of Grand National bookies, visit our betting directory. Free bet offers may well be suspended, so visit individual bookmakers to check current offers before joining.

§ Each way bets give you two chances to win:

  • Half your stake is applied as a win single bet, which pays out at your horse’s full odds if it wins.)
  • The other half of your stake is a bet that typically pays out at 1/4 of the horse’s full odds if your horse finishes among the paid placings (eg in any position among the top 4, 5 or 6 horses).

Different bookies may pay each way bets to different numbers of places for the same race. Paid placings may also differ from race to race.

Champions League Final – no risk & free bets

Tomorrow (28 May 2011) is Champions League final day, one of the biggest days in the football betting calendar. Months worth of competition between some of Europe’s best football clubs will climax in either Manchester United or Barcelona securing the cup – and hopefully showcasing some fantastic footballing skills in the process.

If you’re planning to place a bet on the Champions League final, check out these related offers from two of our featured online football bookies:

No risk Champions League final bet (in-play)

If you place a pre-match bet on the final, you can then place a risk-free in-play bet once the game has kicked off. If your in-play bet loses, Bet365 will refund the stake up to the value of your pre-match stake (subject to a maximum of £50). If your in-play bet wins, you get the stake back anyway.

If you don’t yet have an account with Bet365, open one now to benefit from a bumper welcome bonus offer worth up to £200 in free bets. That offer applies entirely separately to this match-specific promotion, which is open to all customers.

» Champions League final no risk bet offer

NB Bet365 has positioned this as a Champions League free bet offer, but we think it’s more accurately described as being a “risk-free bet” or a “no risk bet”, as you do still have to deposit and wager your own money in order to place the “free bet”. Keep in mind also that you need to place a pre-match bet to qualify for the offer – and that your pre-match bet isn’t risk-free.

Champions League final – Free £5 bet

If you use your Blue Square betting account to place a win single bet of £5 or more at odds of evens or greater on any Champions League final market during the course of tomorrow (Saturday 28 May 2011), they will credit your account immediately with a free £5 bet token.

If you don’t yet have a Blue Square betting account, you can open one to also qualify for up to another £20 in free bets as a welcome offer – see site below for details.

» Champions League final £5 free bet offer

The free bet token will be removed from your account if it isn’t used within 14 days of being credited. Free bets must be used in their entirety, can’t be used to place a series of smaller bets and the stake won’t be returned with any winnings.

Both Bet365 and Blue Square welcome new UK clients aged 18 and over.

Sportingbet free bet boost – limited offer

To tie in with the return of football’s Champions League (though any excuse would have been just as good), online bookmaker Sportingbet is offering DOUBLE its usual welcome offer for new UK customers who sign up between now and 30 September 2010.

You can open a new account in around one minute, thanks to a simple (and secure) registration form. To be eligible for the offer, customers need to register, make an initial deposit of at least £10 and place their first bet (min £10, max £50) by 30 September.

With 24 hours of the bet being settled, the player account will be credited with a free bet token to the same value as the initial bet, up to a maxium of £50. The free bet is offered on a winnings only basis (ie stake not returned) and is only subject to a 1x wagering requirement before any winnings can be withdrawn.

» Qualify for a free bet with Sportingbet

Sportingbet’s standard free bet offer (up to £25) will return with effect from 1 October 2010.

Other terms include:

– The inital bet can be a single or accumulator bet, subject to all selections having odds of 1.2 (1/5) or more.
– Any free bets that remain unused 30 days after being credited will become void and be withdrawn automatically from customers’ sportsbook accounts.

See site for full details and conditions. Sportingbet welcomes new UK players aged 18 and over.
