As we discuss in our betting directory, the nature and size of any free bet offer is only one of a number of factors to consider when choosing an online sportsbook. Placing bets with Sky Bet

To place bets with Sky Bet, start by selecting your preferred sport from the left hand menu (eg football). Depending on the sport, this may open up a sub menu within the left hand column (eg English, Scottish, UEFA, etc). It will also cause available betting markets to be displayed in the central area of the page.

The precise nature of the content will depend upon the sport. For example, the main football page may begin with a number of featured matches. Here, customers can select odds by checking boxes that correspond to the outcomes (with associated odds) on which they wish to place bets (eg away win, Chelsea 8/15). At the bottom of the featured events list, there are buttons for clearing all selections, betting now or adding the selections to the basket. There's also a link for switching between decimal and fractional odds (see our odds guide for help with understanding different formats of betting odds).

In the absence of any featured events - or below them if some are listed - Sky Bet will also list all other available betting coupons and/or competitions for the chosen sport or event. Having navigated to the chosen section by clicking the relevant links, bets can either be placed immediately or selections added to the basket.

The basket is located towards the top of the right hand column. With all selections made, clicking on "Bet slip" within the basket will open the full betting slip. The slip will then show all available bet types for the contents of the basket. When the basket contains more than one selection, this will include options for "multiple" bets. Entering a stake in any "stake" or "stake per line" box will add the bet to the slip and cause potential returns to be calculated and shown automatically in the betting slip's right hand column. To place the bets with Sky Bet from within the betting slip, click the "place bets" button; this is located at the very bottom (it may be necessary to scroll down to see it).

Sky Bet help

Sky Bet's online sports betting site offers 24 hour support including via online chat, regular email (no contact form required), freephone telephone and post. There's also an online help section, the contents of which include help articles with a search facility, FAQs, video help, a glossary of betting terms and a tab containing details of options for contacting the betting support team. When writing this review, we were unable to get any of the article search resilts to display in Internet Explorer. This may have been a temporary issue, but didn't give too much cause for concern in view of the ready access to alternative support channels.
